Kent PCC supports St George’s

St George's subsidised places

For the second year, St George’s has received funding from the Kent Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) for our subsidised childcare places. The grants are helping us to support families who have experienced domestic abuse, by caring for children for free or at a very low cost.

St George’s Childcare is the only nursery in Tunbridge Wells to provide subsidised childcare to families in need. The service means we can support vulnerable children and give parents the time and space they need to access support services, recover from their experiences and move on to a more positive chapter in their lives.

Ellie Stewart, St George’s Fundraising and Development Manager said: “In the past 12 months we’ve supported several families who have experienced domestic abuse, thanks to funding from organisations like Kent PCC.

“In two of these cases, the mums have been able to attend counselling and The Freedom Programme which provides information to women who have experienced domestic violence. The patient, loving care of our staff means children who have had traumatic experiences can flourish and have the happy childhood they deserve.”

St George’s is one of thirteen organisations to receive money from Kent PCC Mathew Scott as part of his pledge to improve services for victims of crime and abuse.

Mr Scott said: “There are some victims who need the additional help and care that only a specialist agency can provide. They may be children, or victims of domestic abuse or a serious sexual assault, for example.

“I’ve pledged to ensure victims have access to faster and more tailored support. The various organisations I’m supporting this year will deliver that across the county.”
