Green Flag Award 2025

This year, St George’s have led the way in early years environmental education and sustainability. We’re so proud of all we’ve achieved and our efforts have been recognised with the prestigious, internationally recognised Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation.

The Eco-Schools programme, established in 1994, has been inspiring young environmentalists for over 30 years. It has grown into a global movement, with Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation awarded to settings in more than 100 countries. In England alone, the programme reaches over 1 million young people each year, empowering them to make a positive impact on our planet.

The children proved you’re never too young to make a difference, and got involved by going on local litter picks, growing fruits and vegetables in their allotment, taking turns being the ‘light monitor’, and engaging in learning activities around travel and transport, energy and water conservation.

Kent Children’s Charity of the Year, Finalists, 2024

We were absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Children’s Charity of the Year Award, by Kent Charity Awards, in 2024. “Recognising those who make the lives of others better”

St George’s operate our entire childcare setting as a charity, this means any surplus created from childcare fees is re-invested into providing outstanding care at our setting. For example, we invest in play equipment and learning resources for the children, we spend money maintaining our well-loved, converted Victorian building and large garden, and we provide a variety of extra-curricular sessions and trips out for our children.

Our subsidised childcare places are funded via our schedule of fundraising activities carried out throughout the year; including applying for relevant grants, and running events such as Quiz Nights, Summer and Christmas Fairs. Read more here about our shortlisting at the Kent Charity Awards.

Nursery world awards 2018

St George’s Childcare won the Community Support Award at The Nursery World Awards in September 2018 for our subsidised places initiative.

Our subsidised places mean we can support vulnerable children and parents who need time and space to get on their feet. St George’s is the only nursery in Tunbridge Wells that offers subsidised childcare places to families in need. We help families who are in crisis due to domestic violence, mental health issues, physical illness and financial hardship. We’re only able to offer this vital service thanks to the support from our local community and generous donations.

There was tough competition from nurseries across the country in this category, and we’re incredibly proud for our work to be recognised.

Charity of the year 2017

We were so proud be awarded Charity of the Year at the Love Where We Live Awards on Tuesday 4th October 2017. The annual awards are organised by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and celebrate those making a difference in the local community.

The award recognises the passion and dedication of all our staff at St George’s. In particular, it shines a light on our assisted childcare places scheme, which enables us to support vulnerable children and local families in need. As the only nursery in Tunbridge Wells to provide this service, we make a real difference to families who find themselves in very difficult circumstances.

Councillor Lynne Weatherly said:

“The Love Where We Live awards are a wonderful opportunity for us to acknowledge and thank individuals, organisations, charities and businesses who make our borough a great place to live and work.”

“We received over 200 nominations and the judges faced a very difficult task of selecting winners from all of these entries. Listening to the stories behind the winning nominations was both inspiring and uplifting.”

Thank you to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and a huge congratulations to all the finalists and winners.
